The Creative Process

This is something that is different for everyone, and can often differ from piece to piece. I have a multitude of approaches for creating a new illustration, depending on what I'm trying to achieve. This post will explore one. 

If my objective is skill building, or to simply keep my practice up when I'm feeling an artists block one of the best methods I've found is to create a schedule! I start by making a folder on my computer with three or four subfolders within it. Inside each subfolder I save a group of related images (references for illustrations). Choose a fun topic for these! For example, I love to keep my craft up by doing scientific illustrations, so my reference photos can be anything from flowers to muscles in the arm!
